CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE (COC) INSPECTIONS

Powerworx has a dedicated team that deals with COC inspections and repairs. We have been doing this since 2006 and are continuing to serve our loyal base of costumers in this regard. We will be able to help you through this sometimes difficult process. We provide an honest report of your installation based on the SANS 1042-2 code, and will also do all necessary alterations to make your electrical installation compliant to the code.

PERFORMANCE CERTIFICATES (EPCs)

South Africa’s updated energy regulations—effective December 2025—now make Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) mandatory for a wide range of buildings. If your property falls under the new law, displaying a valid EPC at your main entrance is no longer optional. It is a legal requirement.

Powerworx Electrical CC is fully accredited and equipped to inspect, assess, calculate, and issue EPCs for your building in full compliance with national regulations.

THE LAW: WHAT THE NEW EPC REGULATIONS REQUIRE

The requirement comes from the National Energy Act (Act 34 of 2008) and the associated Regulations for the Mandatory Display and Submission of Energy Performance Certificates for Buildings, enforced by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE).

Under the updated regulations (effective December 2025):

Private-sector buildings of 2 000 m² or more

If used for:

• Offices
• Education
  Public gatherings You must display a valid EPC at the building entrance.
• Government-owned buildings of 1 000 m² or more

All qualifying government buildings must also display an EPC.

Severe penalties for non-compliance

Failing to display a valid EPC can result in:

• Up to 5 years imprisonment, or
• A fine of up to R5 million

These penalties are written directly into the enforcement provisions of the National Energy Act.
